THERMOGRAM
Why Thermography?
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. Early detection and treatment is the most important factor in decreasing the death rate from breast cancer. In order to detect breast cancer through mammography, the tumor needs to be at least 3/8″ in size. A tumor this large generally takes about 8 years to develop and by this time 25% have already spread. Infrared thermography is an FDA-approved screening tool that can help identify abnormalities in the breast years before any abnormality will be seen on a mammogram.
The Limitations of Mammography?
Mammograms miss 30% of breast cancers in women younger than 50. Abnormalities in younger women are more likely missed when cancers are rapidly growing and breasts are dense or fibrocystic. For women over the age of 70, mammography has no significant benefit in decreasing mortality. Mammography is also less sensitive in pre-menopausal women, women who are pregnant or nursing and those women taking any hormone replacement.
